Earlier this month we had the pleasure of attending the Top Chef Canada finale party, which took place at Vancouver’s flagship Cactus Club Cafe, now open at 1085 Canada Place. We joined hundreds of other excited guests to watch along with the nail-biter finale episode, and to finally find out who would be crowned this season’s Top Chef Canada.
By this point, you’re likely well aware of who took home the prize — Cactus Club’s own Matthew Stowe, who works as a Product Development Chef in the company’s Test Kitchen.
The buzz in the room was palpable, and it was great seeing Matt watch along with the rest of us, and play the part of “who’s it gonna be?” right till the last moment.
Then finally, the moment we’d all been waiting for. It was revealed… and the crowd went crazy!
“We are proud to have supported Chef Stowe and excited to celebrate his win on Top Chef Canada with him,” says Richard Jaffray, president and founder of Cactus Club (pictured above, right).

Was great to finally meet Mijune Pak of Follow Me Foodie.

This was our first time at this Cactus Club location, and it truly is a beautiful space.
Boasting a “sea-to-sky” terrace with retractable glass wall for open-air dining as well as a 40-seat private dining room, it’s easy to see why this is Cactus’ flagship location, and we were surprised to find out later in the evening that even with hundreds present at the finale party, there was still an entire other section of the restaurant which was open to the public that night too. It’s that big.
We enjoyed a variety of appetizers from Cactus Club’s regular menu, including a flatbread pizza, tuna sashimi cones and salmon ceviche, before being treated to a Special Menu created by Chef Matthew Stowe, below.
Curry Cauliflower Soup — dried apricots, currants and toasted almonds. This was delicious, and the currants added a delicious sweetness and texture.
The Maple Leaf Slider — maple pork patty, bacon and rickards beer jam, fresh apple slaw on a challah bun.
Roasted Banana and Coconut Tapioca — tropical fruits with a macadamia nut crumble.
A huge congratulations to Matthew Stowe for the big win, and representing Vancouver’s food scene in such a positive way on Top Chef Canada. He was definitely one of our top faves throughout the entire season, and did amazingly well in the finale.
We had an incredible time at this party, and met some wonderful people. A special thanks to Pace Group for including us.
